The last few weeks have been filled with filming on Season Eight as more information about the series and its guest stars has become available.

Sadly we have said goodbye to some of the stalwarts who helped bring the classic series to life.

As Peter Capaldi settles into the role it is interesting to note that there remains optimism and excitement about his debut season. All signs indicate that although the new Doctor will be different from his predecessors he still appears to be a thrilling, smart and daring Time Lord.

SEASON EIGHT NEWS

Work continues on Episodes Three and Six as the third block of filming continues outside of Cardiff.

Holton Primary School has been used as a location site for Episode Six with Bute Street, Tony Refail School, The Maltings and Cosmeston Medieval Village as locations for filming.

capaldi-series-8-costumeOnlookers have seen Peter Capaldi on set with a sonic screwdriver that is much more similar in design to that of the Eleventh Doctor’s.

Keeley Hawes recently discussed her experience of filming Doctor Who with BT.com. Hawes is playing a baddie named Ms. Delphox in Episode Five, tentatively called Time Heist.

DOCTOR WHO: SERIES 8I had such a lovely time on Doctor Who. Can’t really call it work, it was absolutely lovely. My favorite part was something I thought I’d never get to do, is when the camera shakes…With the new Doctor! With Peter Capaldi , who is brilliant, and the lovely Jenna Coleman. They were so welcoming. It’s quite nerve wracking going on to a big show like that. They were absolutely delightful.

Doctor Who - Series 7BSteven Moffat recently talked doubt why the TARDIS doesn’t seem to like Clara. This plot development will play out again in the new season. he discussed the issue in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine.

As the Type 40 bad girl made clear in The Doctor’s Wife, she doesn’t like him bringing home strays. The TARDIS, as we know, likes to fire her pet Time Lord at interesting moments in history and watch the fireworks. Anyone less mad than the Doctor might have noticed by now the TARDIS navigation always works perfectly when the crisis demands, but never when he fancies lunch, or tea and biscuits at the Eye of Orion.  Now those pesky humans who keep following him home are usually content to stumble about, saying, ‘It’s bigger on the inside,’ and remain sufficiently in awe of the Police Box magic never to question it. But clever, sceptical, hard-to-impress Clara might just cause trouble. It’s almost like it’s all building to something… Oh! What’s this I’m writing today?

Episode Three is tentatively titled Robots Of Sherwood. It was written by Mark Gatiss and directed by Paul Murphy.

TOM RILEY NAMED AS GUEST STAR

As a committed Whovian I cannot believe my luck in joining the Twelfth Doctor for one of his inaugural adventures. My only worry is that they’ll make me leave the set when I’m not filming.

REMEMBERING KATE O’ MARA

Kate O’Mara, beloved by Whovians for her performances as The Rani, passed away on March 30th at age 74. She played the Rani along Colin Baker in 1985’s The Mark of The Rani and in 1987 she battled Sylvester McCoy in Time And The Rani.

doctor-who-mark-of-the-rani-02As an actress she is best known for playing strong, independent female characters with a penchant for power. In addition to Doctor Who she was seen in several other British sci-fi television series, including Danger Man, Adam Adamant Lives!,The SaintZ-Cars and The Avengers.  She also appeared in episodes of The Two Ronnies and Absolutely Fabulous.

Her career as a tough as nails, scheming woman was kickstarted in 1975 when she appeared in the soap, The Brothers with Colin Baker. O’ Mara’s appearance in thirty episodes of the show cemented her career as a woman not to be messed with. In 1986 she joined the cast of Dynasty in 1986, playing Caress Morell.

Colin Baker commented on O’Mara’s passing via Twitter.

Oh my goodness. Kate O’Mara is no longer with us. Sad sad news. A delightful, committed and talented lady and actress. We are the poorer.

Nicola Bryant also weighed in on her death.

Such sad news: Kate O’Mara is no longer with us. A charismatic, courageous, & caring soul; a wonderful actor & a friend. May she finally RIP.

O’Mara took a guest starring role and ran away with it, creating one of the classic series most beloved villains. The Rani was a deadly and cunning adversary who was capable going to extreme measures and most heinous crimes to get what she wanted.

RIP: GLYN JONES

A prolific writer, Jones also wrote the script for William Hartnell’s The Space Museum, which remains to this day an under appreciated First Doctor adventure.

derpUnfortunately Jones’ script was tinkered with and edited, which resulted in the episode broadcast as part of Season Two being greatly different from the script submitted by Jones himself.

Much of the humor that was removed from the original version of Jones’ script was later rectified by Jones writing the Target Books novelization of The Space Museum.

Glyn Jones also is known for writing detective fiction featuring his character Thornton King.

GILLAN TALKS OCULUS

Karen Gillan is a very busy lady. In addition to having two big film, Oculus and Guardians Of The Galaxy under her belt the actress has also filmed a tv pilot and been on tour for Wizard World, stopping at various cities to meet her fans.

karen_gillan-1Entertainment Weekly caught up with her for a chat about Doctor Who and her other projects.

In the interview she talked about her cameo in Time of The Doctor.

It was really weird. It was such a surreal experience. Because those were three very important years of my life on that TV show and then to go back and be on someone else’s TARDIS was a really weird sensation. And sort of be on the outside looking in. But also knowing that life is okay after you leave Doctor Who. It was just a really interesting experience and important to me that I was there for Matt’s final moments in character.

I did loads of really different takes, so I was quite surprised to see that was the take they used, ’cause I thought that they might go with something else, because we did a lot of different takes and we did a lot of different versions of that ending, and a lot of them were really troubling, and I quite liked them.
